Need Assistance

My hubby's 30th birthday is next Friday night and I need some ideas. Gag gift ideas. I have asked everyone to bring something to the party that reminds them of Chris. But I have no idea what I could do from me and the kids. I think we are going to grill burgers and have chips and dip and I am in the process of getting a cake coming. I normally do all the cakes around here, but I don't know how to do fondant and I really want a two-tier fondant cake with black and white. I got this printout of everything that went on in 1978 and on the other side it lists different things that have happened on March the 7th. It is really neat and personalized. (I ordered this) We got him this arrowhead book that he wanted as his gift and I have his mom gathering some pictures together so I can make a collage and frame it with a matted frame so everyone can sign the matte (or mat??) Anyway, any great gag gift ideas? He loves golf, indian arrowheads, bowling and duck hunting.

Thanks!

Internet & Laptop

Thank goodness we are back online at home! I have been several months without and have been having to look online at work when need be. I would always get home and think of something I needed to do online and during impatient times would even come to my office at night just to look something up (we don't live that far away). Anyway, we got our new laptop (finally) last Tuesday and signed up for the no phone line internet service with AT&T. This has worked great so far, but I was on the phone with them for an hour to fix some technical issues with the modem and getting the laptop set up for wireless connection. I highly recommend this service because we hated having a phone line just for the internet because that was $70.00 wasted for a phone that we never used and to sign up for satellite internet service was going to cost an arm and a leg! So anyway, thanks to everyone that gave me the heads up about this no phone internet stuff!

??

People in our country, especially here in the south, are so closed minded. One of my friends is a Mormon and several of my blog family are Mormon and I hate the lies and rumors that go around about this religion. This religion is a CHRISTIAN religion contrary to what people "think". Below is an article saying basically everything that I have wanted to say:

MICROSOFT FOUNDER, NFL OWNER PAUL ALLEN SPEAKS OUT ON MORMONS

Paul Allen is the owner of the Seattle Seahawks, the team who played the Pittsburgh Steelers for the Super Bowl. He is also the owner of the Portland Trail Blazers NBA basketball team and is co-partner with Bill Gates in Microsoft. He wrote this editorial in the Santa Clarita, California newspaper, 2006.I have heard and seen enough! I have lived in the West all my life. I have worked around them. They have worked for me and I for them. When I was young, I dated their daughters. When I got married they came to my wedding. Now that I have daughters of my own, some of their boys have dated my daughters. I would be privileged if one of them were to be my son-in-law. I'm talking about the Mormons.

They are some of the most honest, hardworking people I have ever known. They are spiritual, probably more than most other so-called religious people I have encountered. They study the Bible and teach from it as much as any Christian church ever has. They serve their religion without pay in every conceivable capacity. Not one of their leaders, teachers, counselors, Bishops or music directors receive one dime for the hours of labor they put in. The Mormons have a non-paid ministry - a fact that is not generally known.I have heard many times from the pulpits of others how evil and non-Christian they are and that they will not go to heaven.

I decided recently to attend one of their services near my home to see for myself. What a surprise! What I heard and saw was just the opposite from what the religious ministers of the day were telling me. I found a very simple service with no fanfare. I found a people with a great sense of humor and a well-balanced spiritual side. There was no loud music. Just a simple service, with the members themselves giving the several short sermons. They urge their youth to be morally clean and live a good life. They teach the gospel of Christ, as they understand it. The name of their church is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. Does that sound like a non-Christian church to you? I asked them many questions about what they teach and why. I got answers that in most cases were from the New Testament. Their ideas and doctrines did not seem too far fetched for my understanding. When I read their "Book of Mormon" I was also very surprised to find just the opposite from what I had been told I would find.

Then I went to another church's pastor to ask him some of the same questions about doctrine. To my surprise, when he found out that I was in some way investigating the Mormons, he became hostile. He referred to them as a non-Christian cult. I received what sounded to me like evil propaganda against those people. He stated bluntly that they were not Christian and that they did not fit into the Christian mold. He also told me that they don't really believe the Bible. He gave me a pile of anti-Mormon literature. He began to rant that the Mormons were not telling me the truth about what they stand for. He didn't want to hear anything good about them.At first I was surprised and then again, I wasn't. I began to wonder.

I have never known of a cult that supports the Boy Scouts of America. According to the Boy Scouts, over a third of all the Boy Scout troops in the United States are Mormon. What cult do you know of that has a welfare system second to none in this country?

They have farms, canneries and cattle ranches to help take care of the unfortunate ones who might be down and out and in need of a little help. The Mormon Church has donated millions to welfare causes around the world without a word of credit. They have donated thousands to help rebuild Baptist churches that were burned a few years ago. They have donated tons of medical supplies to countries ravaged by earthquakes. You never see them on TV begging for money.
What cult do you know that instills in its members to obey the law, pay their taxes, serve in the military if asked and be a good Christian by living high moral standards? Did you know that hundreds of thousands of Mormon youth get up before high school starts in the morning to attend a religious training class?

They have basketball and softball leagues and supervised youth dances every month. They are recruited by the FBI, the State Department and every police department in the country, because they are trustworthy. They are taught not to drink nor take drugs. They are in the Secret Service - those who protect the President. They serve in high leadership positions from both parties in Congress and in the US Senate, and have been governors of several states other than Utah. They serve with distinction and honor.

If you have Mormons living near, you will probably find them to be your best friends and neighbors. They are Christians who try to live what they preach. They are not perfect and they are the first to admit this. I have known some of them who could not live their religion, just like many of us.The rhetoric which is spread around against them is nothing more than evil propaganda founded in untruths. (Others) had successfully demonized them to the point that the general public has no idea what they actually believe and teach. If you really want to know the truth, go see for yourself. You also will be surprised. When I first moved here some 25 years ago there were five Mormon wards in Santa Clarita. Now there are 15. They must be doing something right.

The Weekend

This past weekend was fun, but tiring. I think I slept all day yesterday. haha We did go to Springdale (by Fayetteville) and had a fun time although we were worried about Chris' mom. She had a scare this past week. We didn't know if she was having a heart attack or had another blood clot. Neither showed up, but she is to have a stress test this week and go see a cardiologist just to rule anything with her heart out. Keep her in your prayers please!

While the guys were at the arrowhead show, us girls found lots of bargains! On Friday night we went out to eat at Applebee's and came back and played Catchphrase Music Edition. See our pretty appetizer! haha On Saturday we went to Kmart (we don't have any of those around her anymore) and found some deals on their winter items for the kids. I got Jackson a really nice coat for $10.00! Then, we headed to Rogers to the beautiful Promenade. Boy did we find bargains there! I got a really nice dressy jacket that was regular $99 for $6.99 at Lane Bryant! I got fitted for a bra and boy was I wearing the wrong size! Lauren racked up at the Children's Place and Limited Too, I LOVE Limited Too! Could have spent a small fortune there! After shopping, we had the 5 hour drive home to look forward too. Diana and I played Gin Rummy on the way home praying we would get there soon! haha All in all, it was fun and I hope everyone else had a fun weekend too!

Hoping that the ice doesn't get too bad in northwest Arkansas today and tonight. I have a sitter ready and gas tank full. We are suppose to leave out after I drop the kids off for school in the morning and head to the land of Pig Sooie and fine Razorbacks!! GO HOGS! Chris and Mike have a Arrowhead Show to go to (bore) and so Diana and I are going to go shopping at the wonderful Promenade in Rogers. It is a really neat mall that looks like it's own little city. I can't wait and hope that I have lots of pics to share on Monday.

The next installment comes out on August 2nd and the movie is slated for December of this year I think...someone let me know if I'm wrong. Anyway, thanks to Erica for this great post!

Weekend, Ready for another one!

Of course....another weekend gone. Why is it that two days in the week seem to last forever and two days of the weekend go by in a flash?

Anyway, I was super excited to receive my Valentine Swap package Friday afternoon when I got off of work! Check out the loot!! I totally racked up! I received two DVD's that I don't have. One is Notting Hill which is one of my absolute favorite movies of all time and the other is Pride and Prejudice which I have never seen before, but am glad to have it now so I can watch it! She also sent a whole box of popcorn, loads of candy, a bowl for the popcorn, some super cute heart shaped suckers, a cute coffee mug with chocolate cookies, a candy necklace maker and some super cute Cinderella valentines! Thanks so much Christi and thanks Erica for hosting!
Also, on Saturday night Chris, Mike, Diana and I had free tickets to a concert at Harlow's in Greenville, MS. So, my neice kept the kids and out we went.

(Chris wouldn't look at me, but I guess that is ok since he was driving and all! haha)

I had to take a picture of the new bridge because I think it is so pretty

and look how much Diana had on the way home?! haha

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day. My hubby SURPRISED me with a card and a dozen roses, and they were peachy colored! My man doesn't like to buy flowers because they are a waste of money considering they die and all, but he knows that I absolutely love them. The card is what meant the most. He never does this! I asked if he picked the first card he came too and he said no, but that his buddy that was with him did! haha Don't mind the eucalyptus in the background, they were already sitting there.

Rindee sent me the February issue of Real Simple magazine and it has this yummy sounding Corn Chowder recipe in it so Lauren and I made it on Wednesday night. It was super simple and super delicious!!

Last, but not least..for all of you guys that live around Warren, the Mane Event has started selling Staxx rings and necklaces. I think the Gift Shaker in Monticello sells them also. They are super cool and have endless posibilities. They are similar to the Caerleon ring (which I have and love dearly) but cheaper. For those of you who do not live around here, just go to their website and you can either order off of there, for find a place that sells them near you!

Have a great weekend!

Jackson has Glasses

BEFORE

I took Jackson to the eye doctor a few weeks ago because a teacher showed concern. Jackson indeed had to have glasses. He is farsighted which I'm assuming comes from Chris' side of the family considering everyone on my side is nearsighted. He was so excited to get his glasses yesterday, but I think he has already found out that they aren't that exciting. He was already tired of wearing them this morning when he got to school. We will see how his day went. Of course, I had to take a pic with him and his new eyes!!
AFTER

And..I let him take a pic of me too, not bad!

Happy Big Brother Day!

I don't know if anyone watches Big Brother or not, but we (Chris and I) are super excited about the winter edition starting tonight. I had so many withdrawals when it was over in September last year and with the Writer's Strike, they decided to do one early. I am so thankful!! I do miss my Grey's, Private Practice and Dirty Sexy Money, but this is just the cherry on my sundae! haha This time it is all about soulmates. Everyone has been partnered up with someone else in the house and they will have Head of Household together, Power of Veto together and could be evicted together. It all starts tonight and will come on on Wednesday and Sunday also this season as opposed to Tues, Thurs and Sunday in previous seasons. Can't wait to see what kind of secrets this season will bring!!
And for anyone wondering when your favorite show will resume now that the strike is over, go HERE.

Our Weekend

We went bowling on Friday night. It was Lauren's first time and Jackson's second. Chris and I bowl in a league on Tuesday nights. I know this sounds silly, but it is my one night out of the house a week to do adult things! haha I really have a lot of fun doing it and Chris does too and want our kids to like it too. Chris's mom and sister in law and her boyfriend went along with 3 of our nephews. Of course Chris won both games with his over 200 scores, but I bowed a 194 the last game and was excited! The highest I have ever bowled is 210 and I have only bowled over 200 twice ever. I was close, but not quite there. After that, we went to eat at Western Sizzlin and went home.

I finished reading Glamour, Interrupted by Steven "Cojo"caru lastnight. He is so my kind of people and didn't take me long to finish it. It is about his struggle with Polycystic Kidney Disease. He talks about when he was diagnosed, when he had not one, but two kidney transplants and how his life has changed. It is a great read for anyone interested.

Also, I took this quiz and it fits me to a tee!!

What the Mess?

This was in the news today. People are CRAZY!!!
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Police have arrested a motorist they say had a 24-pack of beer strapped in with a seat belt but had a 16-month-old girl unrestrained in the back seat with the toddler's mother.
Tina D. Williams was pulled over in St. Augustine on Sunday for allegedly running a red light.
A 24-pack of Busch beer was strapped in with the passenger-side seat belt, according to an arrest report. The girl was in the back seat with 20-year-old Amber Tedrick, who is the toddler's mother.
Williams, 46, said she didn't know why the child wasn't restrained.
Williams refused to take a breath test and a deputy found two metal pipes commonly used to smoke drugs in her purse, authorities said.
Williams was charged with driving under the influence, child abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license, a jail official said. She remained in the St. Johns County jail Tuesday after bail was set at $31,000.
The jail did not have the name of her attorney. It was not clear if Tedrick would face any charges, but the child was released to her care, according to The Florida Times-Union.

Twilight Movie Trailer

I had not seen any clips from the upcoming Twilight movie. Rosjuane stated she had seen some, so I went to searching. Apparently at some time or the other, they made a movie about it with a bunch of well known actors and actresses and I'm sad I didn't get to see that one, but here is a clip from the upcoming movie.
Enjoy!
UPDATE: THIS IS A TRAILER THAT FANS PUT TOGETHER, BUT STILL GETS YOU EXCITED ABOUT IT, HUH? HAHA THE REAL MOVIE WILL BE COMING OUT
DECEMBER 12, 2008.

Release Date!!!!!

I was just searching around on Barnes and Noble and saw that you could pre-order Breaking Dawn, the next book in the Twilight series. I am so there!! It is going to be released August 2nd! I can't wait!

Makeup Bags & Glasses

Robin Barnett is a great monogrammer!! (Is that a word?) She had a special going on makeup bags and glasses and since I am a monogrammer nut, I HAD to have these! I ordered a makeup bag for myself and a cup for each member of the family. The glasses are HUGE! Perfect for a big Dr. Pepper in my house. (Not for the kids of course) The makeup bags are $20 and the glasses range from $12-$15. Very reasonable, I'm telling you, they are big! Click on Robin and give her a shout out for her cute stuff!

Twisters Galore

Lastnight was a frightening night here in Arkansas. Tornadoes everywhere. We have 13 confirmed dead. The main twister hit Atkins, Cleveland, Clinton and Mountain View. There were also tornadoes in Gassville, Cotter, and Highland. The picture above is from the tornado in Cleveland. My cousins live in Clinton, my uncle and his wife live in Baxter county about 20 miles north of Mountain View and 20 miles south of Gassville. Both of my sister in laws live in Mountain View. We were worried sick about my sister in laws lastnight because channel 11 said that the hospital, school and some of downtown Mountain View were tore up. We called and called them and could never get through. Finally, one of them called me about 7:30 this morning to let me know that they were okay. She doesn't know for sure the extent of the damage yet because she hasn't ventured out. They still do not have any electricity. One of my sister in law's boyfriend wanted to go to his grandmother's basement and Cindy (my sis in law) wanted to just stay there because the storm was about to be there and he left anyway with his two daughters. His grandmother's house was right in the storm's path and they still haven't heard from him. Please keep him and his little girls in your prayers and pray that they have a safe return. Mother Nature is wild and mysterious...definately nothing to play around with!
UPDATE: Mike (Cindy's boyfriend) is safe, but he did have a wreck. By the time he turned onto his mother's road, it started hailing and the tornado was right there. It picked his car up in the air and dropped it making it flip and he ran into a fence. It busted the back glass out and he and his girls crawled out the back. God was definately with them. Also, my mom talked to my cousins and uncle, they are all ok! :)

My Swap Goodies, a Pie, and Hillary!

I was so excited when I drove up yesterday to my house after work to see a package waiting at my door! My Literacy Swap package came in!! This time my swap partner was Rindee and boy did she do a great job! I can't wait to get started on reading the books and I LOVE magazines!!Thanks Rindee!!

Lastnight, I felt very domestic. I came home and tried a new recipe for Pork Medallions. I forgot to take a picture of them because we were so hungry, but it was super simple. Just take a pork loin and cut into 1 1/2" slices, wrap them in bacon. Line a pan with foil and place the bacon wrapped loin pieces on the foil. In the meantime, bring to a boil the following ingredients: 1/2 cup syrup, 2 Tbsp. butter, 2 Tbsp. Dijon Mustard, 2 Tbsp. Chicken broth. Take off the burner and baste the pieces of loin with half the mixture. Place in a 425 degree oven for 30 minutes. When done, pour the rest of the mixture over the loins.
SO GOOD even Chris liked it and that is saying something! haha

I also made a Cherry Cheese Pie, my fave dessert in the whole world! All you do for this is take an 8 oz. pkg of cream cheese, softened and mix with a mixer until fluffy, then add a can of Eagle Brand milk and mix together. Now add 1/3 cup lemon juice and a tsp. vanilla. Mix together with a spoon and put into a graham cracker crust. Chill for a few hours and top with your fave fruit. Mine is always cherry pie filling! Enjoy!

Last, but not least, today are the primaries for several states, including Arkansas!
GO HILLARY!!
